Do you love cheering at the Boston Marathon? Have you always wanted to be a volunteer with the BAA? We want to support any volunteer time our members are able to give to the running community so we thought we would share some helpful information.
The BAA (Boston Athletic Association) Volunteer registration for the 129th Boston Marathon will open on December 9th, 2024.
There is a high demand for volunteer spots for the Boston Marathon and if you register, you may or may not get picked. GLRR has filled out the form to volunteer as a group but since we don’t know if we will get a group assignment, we are encouraging individuals to consider registering to be a volunteer.
If you plan to register, you may want to go to the BAA website and look around. You will see all the types of assignments and see that volunteers are needed on many different days.
Setting up a BAA Athletes’ Village Account before the 9th will be helpful as you will need an account to apply to volunteer.
If you apply to be a volunteer and there is a spot to mention GLRR as your running club, please be sure to include us. The BAA takes each running clubs’ involvement and support of the BAA into account when they consider how many Invitational Bibs to give to each of the local running clubs.
Additionally, GLRR wants to know when you volunteer for the BAA or run with the BAA. Sometime in the end of April and again in the end of August we will send out a google form asking for this info, but feel free to email vice_president@glrr.net to share this info throughout 2025 if you think you missed the google form. We know we have amazing members and we want to be sure we are able to tell the BAA about all we do when we apply for Invitationall Bibs next year.
Finally, there is a lot going on this time of year. Please be sure to check our website, GLRR.net for a few deadlines coming up.
Keep running,
Amy Breen
