USATF-NE Cross Country Update

The first two races in the USATF-NE Cross Country Grand Prix are in the books.  The series started off in Wellesley with the Greater Boston Track Club XC Invitiational.  Greater Lowell fielded masters and seniors teams for both men and women.  Kara Haas was the first masters woman and second woman across the line in the Women’s 5K in 19:23.  Maureen Pellegrini, Liane Pancoast, and Mary Casey-Gorman joined her on the 2nd place Women’s Masters team.  Maureen, Liane, and Mary formed the 3rd place Women’s Seniors team.  The Masters Men were led across the line by Mark Reeder, who was 5th overall and 2nd from a scoring team in 18:24.  Kevin Carnabucci, John Barbour, Chris Hancock, Peter Lagoy, Tim Hagerty, and Howard Hersey formed the rest of the 3rd place team with Mark.  Mark, John, Peter, Tim, Howard, and Richard Malloy formed the 2nd place Men’s Seniors team.  Results are on CoolRunning.

We had less representation out in Northampton for the second race in the series — the Western Mass Distance Project XC Invitational — but some good results nonetheless.  Kara came in 3rd overall and won the Women’s 40+ division for the second straight race.  Her father Richard also won his 70+ division.  Elizabeth Often, Kevin, and Chris also made the trek out to Western Mass and ran well for the club.  Unfortunately we weren’t able to field a team in any of the divisions.  Results can be found here.

So after two races we are in 2nd place for Men’s Masters and Men’s Seniors and 3rd place for Women’s Masters and Women’s Seniors.  Those standings can be found here.  So how can you help?  Get out and run some cross country with the team.  The races are a lot of fun and it really is the most fun you can have with running shoes on.  Our next race is coming up quickly on Oct. 9th in Wayland and we could use your help to fill out the teams.  You can also cheer on the youth team that day since they are also running in that meet.  Find more info at http://www.waylandxc.com/.

After Wayland the remaining local races are in Franklin Park.  The Mayor’s Cup is on Oct. 23rd and is another opportunity to cheer on the youth team.  After that the USATF-NE Championship Races are on Nov. 6th.  Then the fun and running moves south to Tallahassee, FL for the Nationals on Dec. 10.  More info on the series can be found on the USATF-NE site.

Hope to see you in Wayland!
