Start Date: 9/14/2020

End Date: 10/18/2020

Duration: 5 weeks

Description:

This fall, GLRR will be holding a virtual relay race! Participants will be on teams of five. Each week, each team must complete five relay legs, totaling 26.2 miles.

Leg distances are 3.1 miles, 3.1 miles, 5 miles, 5 miles, and 10 miles

  • Races can be run any time Monday – Sunday of any given week.
  • Runs must be continuous, i.e., timing continues even if runner stops to rest, walks, etc.
  • Times must be submitted by 8 pm Sunday with name, team name, date of run, distance, and time.
  • Organizer will calculate and publish weekly results and track “standings” as we move along.

Team Competition

  1. Competition is held in the following categories: Open division – men, women, and co-ed. To qualify as a co-ed team, the team must have at least two female participants, two participants under the age of 11, or some combination thereof. (For example, a team of 3 adult men, 1 adult woman, and one 10-year-old boy would qualify as a co-ed team). An all-women’s team may opt to compete in the co-ed division. Due to the limited pool of participants, it is highly recommended that teams be co-ed.
  2. Points are awarded to all scoring teams in all divisions, men, women, and co-ed. The first-place team in each division will receive points equal to the number of scoring teams in that division, with a minimum of five points. The following team will receive one point less, and so on down to one point.
  3. Team scoring is by total time of the required number of runners in a division, low total time wins.
  4. A team must have a minimum of three and a maximum of five runners to score. If a team has fewer than five participants in a given week, the team may find an alternate runner and/or members can run multiple legs. If a participant runs multiple legs, they cannot be the same distance. For example, Runner A could run both the 5k and 10-mile legs, but not both 5k legs.
  5. The distance of 26.2 miles must be completed by the team each week to score, in the legs specified above.
  6. Times must be submitted by 8pm Sunday to be valid.

Individual Competition

  1. a) Individual competition is scored for both men and women in the overall, 39-and-under, and 40- and over divisions.
  2. b) Points are awarded to the top ten finishers for each leg (3.1 miles, 5 miles, 10 miles). The winner will receive ten points, and the next finishers are awarded nine, eight, seven, six, etc., points, respectively, down to one point.
  3. c) In the event that there is a tie for first place in the overall, or an age division, the tie will be broken by comparing head-to-head competition.
  4. d) Runners score in the individual age groups based on age on September 6, 2020.
  5. e) Points for each runner accumulate, regardless of which distance(s) the participant run.
  6. f) A runner can earn points for one leg each week. If a participant runs multiple legs in a week, the leg with highest number of points earned will be the one used toward individual scoring.

Registration

Participants can register individually or as a team of five. Teams are a request—the organizers may move people around to make sure every team is filled. Individual registrants will be assigned teams. Each team selects a team captain and team name.
